Julia Child  (August 15, 1912 - August 13, 2004) was an American chef, author and television personality. She is recognized for introducing French Cusine to the American public with her cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her subsequent television program,The French Chef,  which premiered in 1963.
While Julia is the French Chef to many Americans, she is wasn’t always a chef.

Donovan. As a research assistant in the Secret Intelligence division, she typed 10,000 names on white note cards to keep track of officers. In 1944 she was posted to Kandy, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), where her responsibilities included “registering, cataloging and channeling a great volume of highly classified communications” for the OSS’s clandestine stations in Asia. She was later posted to China, where she received the Emblem of Meritorious Civilian Service as head of the Registry of the OSS Secretariat.
In 2000, Child received the French Legion of Honor and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003 and also received honorary doctorates from Harvard University, Johnson and Wales University, her alma mater Smith College, Brown University, among others.

“I’d rather die than be the cause of any hurt or harm coming to you, Baby, because I love you so much… I wish I was your age again- perhaps a few years older-and-no ties of any kind-no responsibilities- it would be so lovely, for there would be so many long years ahead for us instead of a few possible ones.” -Humphrey Bogart to Lauren Bacall

“Funny business, a woman’s career - the things you drop on your way up the ladder so you can move faster. You forget you’ll need them again when you get back to being a woman. That’s one career all females have in common, whether we like it or not: being a woman. Sooner or later, we’ve got to work at it, no matter how many other careers we’ve had or wanted. And in the last analysis, nothing’s any good unless you can look up just before dinner or turn around in bed, and there he is. Without that, you’re not a woman. You’re something with a French provincial office or a book full of clippings, but you’re not a woman. Slow curtain, the end.”

On the 40th Anniversary of Title IX I would like to thank my childhood hero (and adult hero), Mia Hamm. She was a kickass soccer player, but more importantly a kickass lady and taught us all to be strong, determined and fearless women. Thank You, Mia and all the other female athletes who strove for equality in athletics and allowed for millions of girls to get out and play. Here’s to 40 MORE years of Title IX.
